Cutting your own material can have big advantages. You can have cuttings of your choice at the time of your choice. Furthermore, the risk of being contaminated by other sources, is much smaller. In order to cut your own material, you do need to work tidily and precisely. If you work messily and do not have a lot of time, it makes a lot more sense to just buy some cuttings.

Cutting your own material is in principle the same whether you cultivate in hydrphonic or in soil.

The difference is mainly in the use of the cutting medium. Cuttings for soil can be cultivating in smll cutting pots whereas a hydrophonic cutting must be cultivated in a Rockwool block. Nevertheless a cutting in a Rockwool could be cultivated further in soil
